Chris Hemsworth has been many things, but now he is a spider. Well, not exactly, but the Thor star’s impressive physique and “huge” stature has led to a new resident of the Australian Reptile Park being named after him because of its impressive size. “The Hemsworth” is a funnel-web spider that was donated to the park via one of their drop-off centers, and according to spider handler Emma Teni, there was no other name they could have possibly given it.
The 9.2cm arachnid is the largest ever donated to the park on Central Coast, and will be part of their anti-venom program. As a creature with fangs capable of piercing a human fingernail and killing a person in 15 minutes with its venom, perhaps the park is the safest place for it to be. How does Hemsworth feel about this unexpected accolade? Well, he hasn’t commented as yet, but keep an eye on his social media accounts for a reaction soon.
Having something named after you, even one of Australia’s most deadly animals, is an honor that many regular people never get to experience. However, for Hemsworth, it is just another day at the office for the much-loved actor. Currently, his popularity and list of upcoming movies could not be more impressive.
Hemsworth’s MCU return as Thor seems to be virtually guaranteed, both in the upcoming Avengers movies and his own fifth solo outing. His recent voice performance in Transformers One is set to be followed up with a rumored role in the live-action Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover, Extraction 3 is heading into production this year, and he is reportedly set to play a version of Prince Charming in a new Disney movie.
However, one role that he was set to play that is now in doubt is that of controversial former WWE wrestling star Hulk Hogan. The 90s icon was set to get his own biographical movie at Netflix, with Hemsworth signed on to take the lead role. After several delays and stop-start moments, it seems that the biopic is now on the canvas and has been counted out.
Of course, Hemsworth is never going to be short of work as long as he wants, so no one need worry about that. Even older movies by the actor are constantly getting attention on streaming platforms, with his 10-year-old historical action movie In the Heart of the Sea, recently pushing aside new movies like the huge Netflix original Carry-On to take the top spot on the streamer’s chart. This is alongside last year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which landed itself a top five position after being added to the streamer’s library.
